The design of vehicle frontends is strongly influenced by pedestrian safety requirements. High computational effort and structural complexity make the examination of various variants with structural optimization methods difficult. A simplification approach for the frontend structure is proposed to reduce the computational effort for lower leg impacts considerably. At the same time the approach enables the creation of numerous variants with low manual effort. A simple example shows the potential of the ansatz to identify trends and sensitivities for frontend structures.     «
