The plasminogen activator system and the kallikrein-related peptidases form an interacting proteolytic network. In this thesis, the interaction between the plasminogen activator inhibitors PAI-1 and PAI-2 and the kallikrein-related peptidases KLK2 and KLK4 was investigated. PAI-1 is an effective inhibitor of both KLKs. Even with high concentrations, PAI-2 reduced the activities of KLK2 and KLK4 maximally by approx. 50%. The covalent complex formed by PAI-1 and KLK4 was exemplary visualized by gel electrophoresis (Coomassie- and silver-stain) and Western blot.
