The present dissertation gives new insights about the quantitative magnetic resonance based biomarker T
2 water (T
2w) in the presence of fatty infiltration in skeletal muscle tissue of patients with neuromuscular diseases. T
2w is currently seen as a marker for “disease activity”. In the first embedded publication, magnetic resonance spectroscopy is used to investigate T
2w of skeletal muscle tissue in regions of high fatty infiltration. In the second embedded publication, the T
2w determination based on a novel quantitative imaging technique is investigated in the presence of fat.
