The most commonly used classification systems for sensibility regeneration after digital nerve injury do not take into consideration the patient´s age. However, it is well known that the sensibility regeneration after digital nerve reconstruction is age-dependent. The finger nerve sensibility was measured in 232 patients and showed an age-dependent decline. We used this data to establish a new classification system for sensibility regeneration after digital nerve reconstruction, for a control group as well as for patients with diabetes mellitus.
