We performed a randomized pilot study investigating the effects of a “Shared Decision Making Training” for inpatients with schizophrenia. The training was highly accepted by the patients, yielded higher participation preferences and increased their desire for more responsibility for medicinal decisions. However patients became more skeptical towards treatment and were perceived as more “difficult” by their psychiatrists. The follow up indicates that it might generate beneficial long-term effects.
