The present study evaluated the efficiency of stereotactic radiotherapy of benign skull base meningiomas as well as the value of methionin-PET for radiation treatment planning.
137 patients treated with fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (121 patients) respectively stereotactic radiosurgery (16 patients) revealed a response rate of 26,3% and a tumor kontrol rate of 93% over an observation period of median 32 months. Symptoms improved in 38% of the cases.
Further, methionin-PET-MRI/CT image fusion has proven as helpful for a better delineation of the gross tumor volume of skull base meningiomas.
