Aim of this study was to investigate the effect of a ten-day hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) on the human cellular immune defence. Therefore blood samples were taken before the first and after the last HBO to determine the lymphocyte subpopulations by flow cytometry, using monoclonal antibodies against CD3, CD4, CD8, CD16, CD19, CD25, CD56 and HLA-DR. Almost all of the examined cellpopulations showed significant changes. Nevertheless it is not possible to interpretate the results as a stimulation or suppression of the immune defence, because there is no clear statistical trend visible.
