To analyze the feed intake and rumen development, a special facility for calf rearing with a milk feeding robot with automatic tongue temperature measurement, a forefoot-weighing machine, a drinking water robot, a concentrate feeding robot and roughage weighing troughs was installed and electronically interlinked. Within a long-term trial over 33 weeks with 66 individual calves, sensor data were captured to more than 95 % in outstanding quality. Feed and water intake highly correlated with the measured influencing factors in different combinations. Also, significant changes of the rumen villi dimensions were induced. Thereby, the rumen development of the right sided caudo-dorsal blind bag can be determined via feed intake and animal weight.
