The standardisation of methods for the determination of quality parameters of solid biofuels can facilitate commerce and contribute to the achievement of climate protection objectives. For the determination of physical-mechanical fuel properties reliable, comparable and time saving methods are demanded, which have to be adapted to a large variety of energy carriers. By means of comparative trials, the viable application of selected determination methods for the quality parameters moisture content, size distribution, bulk and particle density is examined and evaluated. The measurement results are partially subject to large deviations with varying repeatabilities and are often not comparable. Thus, the standardisation of testing methods for quality determination of solid biofuels appears indispensable.
