- This thesis analyses the efficacy and side effects of second-generation antipsychotics (SGAs) in long-acting injectable (LAI) and oral forms for the treatment of acute schizophrenia through two meta-analyses. The results confirm the superiority of SGAs over placebo and show that LAIs are comparably effective to oral formulations, but often have a better side effect profile, especially for extrapyramidal symptoms.

- Diese Arbeit analysiert Wirksamkeit und Nebenwirkungen von langwirksamen injizierbaren (LAI) und oralen Antipsychotika der zweiten Generation (SGA) bei akuter Schizophrenie durch zwei Meta-Analysen. Sie bestätigt SGAs’ Überlegenheit gegenüber Placebo und zeigt, dass LAIs mit oralen Formulierungen vergleichbar wirksam sind, oft mit günstigerem Nebenwirkungsprofil, besonders bei extrapyramidalen Symptomen.
