We evaluated patient satisfaction and psychologic effects of the new method of internal cardioversion on patients with chronical atrial fibrillation compared to the standard therapy in a randomized, prospective therapy-study. Besides the direct measurement of satisfaction, affective variables as anxiousness, depression and somatising tendency were taken at three different times. On the short hand, the study showed a greater acceptance of external, on the long term rather of internal cardioversion. The main predictor on satisfaction was success of treatment as well as the patients´ premorbid status more than the method.
