The doctoral thesis integrates the findings of three publications on biological invasions, multifunctionality, resilience, and climate change adaptation. The goal is to understand effects of global change on urban grasslands and to identify attributes that enhance their functioning and ecosystem services. The results are discussed in relation to current research gaps in design and management of urban grasslands, and what factors may influence their successful establishment. Practical recommendations address the consequences for development of urban green infrastructure.
