X-ray dark-field chest radiography is a novel imaging technique, which has shown in various small-animal studies to deliver relevant information on structural changes to lung parenchyma related to COPD (pulmonary emphysema). Recently, the first application of the technique on humans was demonstrated at the TUM university hospital Rechts der Isar. In this PhD report, the technical development of the used prototype system is described. Further, initial results of a clinical study on the technique’s diagnostic value with regards on the detection and assessment of pulmonary emphysema are presented.
