In this work, membrane-bound dehydrogenases from acetic acid bacteria were expressed and characterized in a multi deletion strain of Gluconobacter oxydans 621H, in which all known membrane-bound dehydrogenases were deleted. Using appropriate dehydrogenases, strains were constructed and optimized regarding their oxidation of meso-erythritol to L-erythrulose and the two-step oxidation of D-glucose to 5-keto-D-gluconate via D-gluconate. In addition, oxidation of antibiotics by membrane-bound dehydrogenases was studied.
