A systematic procedure for network modelling of lossy one-port and symmetric two-port microwave circuits is presented. We describe a systematic strategy for Brune's circuit synthesis of one-ports from positive real rational functions and its numerical implementation. Starting from numerical data obtained by measurement or from numerical full-wave simulation the rational function representation of Z- or Y-parameters is found using vector fitting procedure. Applying Brune's synthesis algorithm, a lumped element equivalent circuit is generated.
