To facilitate human-robot interaction, the robot can utilize legible motion cues so that the observer can quickly and confidently interpret an intention. In addition, a proven motion cue should be adaptable to different robots and scenarios. A “Back-Off” retraction movement serves as an exemplary motion cue throughout the process. The analysis of human motion behavior gives insights into the robot’s legibility. Statistical modeling is applied to provide guidelines for the design of the parameters, velocity, retraction length, and movement execution time.
