Synaptic plasticity is the underlying process for learning. Synaptic plasticity can be investigated by transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in humans. In these processes the so-called metaplasticity („plasticity of synaptic plasticity”) plays an essential role. This study investigated metaplasticity in the human brain, induced by a high-frequent, non-invasive transcranial brain stimulation (NIBS), combining a neuronal facilitating and inhibitory stimulation. The results support the assumption of metaplastic interactions in the human brain.
