Due to the intention of an optimization of development costs and development time automobile manufacturers make an effort on limiting the number of cost-intensive and time consuming prototyping to verify the functional characteristics of a car to a required minimum. As a result of this effort, verifications based on experimental testing in former times have to be done by numerical simulations today. To stay abreast of these changes, there is the need of accurately defined and quality controlled methods and processes for numerical analysis and simulation. Within the scope of the present research project methods which are known for quantifying the quality of experimental testing and production will be adapted systematically to numerical simulations for the functional design of car bodies. The development of a procedure model for managing the quality of the product and the process of numerical analyses and simulations will be presented for the level of operation in this report. The proprietary procedure model is based on a combination of “Quality Function Deployment” (QFD) and “Failure Mode and Effects Analysis” (FMEA) which is already approved in several scopes.
