In this thesis, expression of urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA), plasminogen activator inhibitor type-1 (PAI-1), and urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR) was analyzed by immunohistochemistry in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Expression levels of uPA, PAI-1, and uPAR were correlated with follow-up data of the TNBC patient cohort to evaluate their prognostic impact in the risk assessment of TNBC. Patients with elevated PAI-1 expression levels showed significantly worse survival than the group of patients with low PAI-1 expression, which indicates prognostic value of PAI-1 expression in patients with TNBC.
