Rapeseed oil fuel may lead to deposits in internal combustion engines. To investigate the effects of fuel, temperature and operating profile on deposit formation, testruns with two identical combined heat and power plants have been carried out with the deposits being rated. Also, new methods for on- and offline determination of the developing of deposit formation have been used. As a result, a direct influence of fuel composition and surface temperature on deposit formation in combustion chamber and particulate filter could be detected.
