The aim of this study was to get functional long-term results of operative treated diacapitular condylar head fractures. Within the patient collective, data of the function of the TMJ were evaluated in two temporally separated examinations and afterwards the results were compared. The time between both examinations ranged from an average of 5 years. Using the same methods, both follow-up examinations included evaluation of magnetic resonance tomographical, axiographical and clinical parameters. In this way it was possible to observe the TMJ function of the patient collective in the course of the time and to get information about the long-term stability. Based on the results it was able to demonstrate, that, after operative treatment with small fragment screws, condylar head fractures showed stable results regarding the function.
