The value of anorectal manometry in the diagnosis of fecal incontinence is a controversially discussed topic in literature. An analysis of the test results of 573 incontinent and 144 continent persons should serve to clarify this question. The results of the research showed a significant difference between the two groups. The sensitivity of anorectal manometry was rated as very good. The specificity, however, was moderate. In the framework of this thesis an Incontinence-Score was developed that is a combination of the four parameters of anorectal manometry. Based on this score, it was possible to differentiate satisfactorily between continent and incontinent individuals.
