Costimulatory signaling has been implicated as a potential regulator of antitumor immunity. Since the exact role of B7-H3 (CD 276) is still elusive, we investigated its expression in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma using immunohistochemistry and PCR. The expression of B7-H3 is upregulated in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma compared to normal pancreatic tissue and was detectable by immunohistochemistry in adenocarcinoma cells. Furthermore, high tumor B7-H3 expression correlated with better postoperative survival and with the number of tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T-cells. Thus B7-H3 seems to play a positive prognostic role in pancreatic cancer.
