The quality of life after periprosthetic femoral fractures was studied retrospectively and prolectively at patients of the Trauma Clinic at the Technical University of Munich. 55 periprosthetic fractures in 46 patients were treated between 1994 and 2006 conservatively or surgically. The average age at fracture was 73.3 years. For this study, 19 patients could still be questioned about their quality of life. The statements of the patients to the overall life situation before and after fracture were hardly distinguishable from the normal population data. Concerning the questions on health, major differences were found, with respect to the situation before the fracture. Regarding to the questions on the health situation the aggravation in consequence of the fracture was more significant than in the questionnaire regarding the general life situation.
