This thesis discusses the question what we can learn from history for the current debate about euthanasia in disabled newborns. A detailed historical presentation of national socialist childrens´ euthanasia is followed by an ethical analysis of the key moral questions about euthanasia for severely disabled children; issues such as the legitimacy of judgement on the value of human life, the role of the physician as a potential decision-maker over life or death, the attitude of the parents concerned, and the impact of economical aspects, are discussed. On the basis of three authors from the contemporary ethical literature (P. Singer, N. Hoerster, R. Merkel), different positions on euthanasia in newborns are presented. On the basis of the historical experience of nationalsocialist childrens´ euthanasia a Slippery-Slope-Argument is formulated against legalization of active euthanasia in disabled newborns.
