The aim of this study was to show the effects of electrochemically activated water added to drinking water to the broiler chicken production. Electrochemically activated water is created through passing a saline solution and the separation in a electrical charging cell.
On a private poultry farm with two identical stabling (test stable with added electrochemically activated water and control stable with normal drinking water) three fattening periods were tested for mortality, life weight, food intake and water intake and slaughter weight. Temperature and relative humidity were continuously measured by a sensor of Rotronic and the data were stored by a hydrolog, which were transformed to a excel file. The concentration of ammonia was tested at the beginning of the fattening, at the middle and the end. The drinking water of both stabling was analysed to bacteria, like aerobes bacteria growth, enterococcus, lactose positive bacteria and enterobacteriaceae. Besides faeces and the food were tested to bacteria.
For the broiler chicken production high temperature at the beginning of the fattening period is desired. In the progressive fattening the temperature was decreased in a normal way. The low relative humidity (50 to 60 %rF) at the beginning and the normal relative humidity (65 to 82 %rF) at the rest of the fattening was caused by the dry straw and the straw management during the fattening. The measurements of temperature and relative humidity of the control stable were badly fluctuated, because of the worse isolation than of the test stable. The ammonia concentration with 2.4 to 9.96 ppm was compared to other scientifically studies low.
The bacterial investigation showed at the III. fattening course, that the drinking water at the nipple of the test stable had with 1.50 log KBE/ml a significant lower contamination of bacteria, than in the control stable with 4.96 log KBE/ml. Also the contamination of the water main after the fattening of the control stable was with 7.5 log KBE/ml significant higher, than the test stable with 4.85 log KBE/ml. No difference existed at the nipple dishes in both stabling. Bacteria entered by faeces, food and dust particle. A positive effect to the bacterial contamination in drinking water by disinfection and conservation of electrochemically activated water had been shown. The bacterial contamination of food were with 5 to 6 log KBE/g similar for both stabling and was only investigated to prove that there were the same conditions for both of them. Also the investigation on faeces produced no substantial differences.
The mortality was in both stabling nearly the same, but a downward tendency at the test stable was noticeable. Always at the end of the three fattening periods the broiler of the test stable had a significant higher weight, than in the control stable. But after the slaughtering the broiler of both stabling had nearly the same weight, except the third fattening the test stable had a higher end weight about 35 g, than the control stable. At the beginning by the feed consumption there was a reduce in the test stable to record, but at the last fattening period the consumption was higher, than in the control stable. No significant differences could be shown at the daily feed consumption between the two stabling. The water intake of the broiler in the test stable was through all fattening periods higher, than in the control stable, but there were no significant differences.
Finally it can be said, there is a positive effect on the quality of drinking water by the added of electrochemically activated water. But there were confirmed by other scientists only minimal tends to better growing and a reduce of food consumption. Perhaps examinations at longer fattening periods, different climate and/or worse hygienically conditions can show effects on the weight, food intake and animal health. The use of electrochemically activated water to preserve the quality of drinking water for a longerterm or to disinfect water with no drinking quality can be possibilities.
