A broadband front end of an optical receiver for a frequency band from 10 MHz up to 5.5 GHz has been designed and fabricated using hybrid integrated technology. The amplifier consists of a transimpedance input stage, two broadband shunt feedback amplifier stages and an equalizing output. The amplifier was optimized for low noise performance. For noise analysis, the influence of the shot noise caused by the input power dependent photo current in the photo diode was taken into account using the network analysis program SANA.
