Abstract:
In 1962, a 22-year-old Ph.D. degree student at Cambridge University, Brian D. Josephson, predicted the phenomenon of a supercurrent, i.e., a current flowing without any voltage applied across a superconductor-insulator-superconductor junction [1]. For this pioneering work, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1973.
