This thesis investigates organizational aspect of the university-to-industry technology transfer process. It is submitted as a cumulative thesis and is based on four publications. The first study analyzes the governance structure of technology transfer offices in Europe. The second study presents a new approach for using databases to identify academic patents. The third study discusses selection bias in innovation studies from counting patent applications at a single office. The fourth study analyzes how patent and organizational variables relate to ownership patterns of academic patents.     «
