This paper discusses the case of an interorganizational community of practice (CoP). CIO-Circle is a non-profit, independent network of CIOs and ITmanagers. The goal of this network is to give CIOs and IT-managers a forum to exchange information in an open and trustworthy way. For that purpose, three important success factors such as trust, incentives and self-organization are discussed and applied to the CIO-Circle. Based on the researchers? experience, this paper describes how these factors affect the success of the community. The paper concludes with a discussion on aspects yet to be implemented and recommendations for further research in this area.
