The AKT kinase is a crucial component of the PI3K signaling pathway, which is often deregulated in human cancer. A novel mouse model was generated here to study celltype specific and inducible expression of a constitutive active mutant of AKT (AKT1-E17K), which was found in human tumor samples. In vivo expression in murine T-cells resulted in an aggressive Peripheral T-Cell Lymphoma in mice. This model sheds new light on cancerogenesis caused by aberrations of the PI3K/AKT pathway and serves as a model for the human disease which can help to develop new therapeutic strategies.
