Within the scope of this work, the oil balance of the piston group was examined experimentally. The investigations were carried out on a prototype single-cylinder gasoline engine. In order to obtain a complete picture of the oil balance, measurements of the piston secondary motion, motion measurements of the piston rings including their rotational motion, and the prevailing pressures in the ring pack were carried out. Oil film thickness measurements by means of laser-induced fluorescence allow an assessment of the developing lubricant film thicknesses.
