In einer prospektiven diagnostischen Studie wurde an 393 Patienten ein neues FE_NO-Gerät auf seine Zuverlässigkeit hin untersucht sowie der diagnostische Wert der FE_NO-Messung unter Berücksichtigung von spontanem Sputum gegenüber der leitliniengerechten Diagnostik analysiert. Das neue Gerät liefert zuverlässige Messwerte. Eosinophiles Asthma wird durch FE_NO sicher erkannt, neutrophiles Asthma führt zu falsch niedrigen Ergebnissen und kann nur mit zusätzlicher Sputumanalyse erfasst werden.     «

There is a growing importance of bronchial inflammation concerning the diagnosis of asthma. A prospective diagnostic survey with 393 patients investigated a new FE_NO device's accuracy and the diagnostic value of FE_NO taking spontaneous sputum analysis into account. Reference standard was a guideline based diagnosis. The new device showed sufficient accuracy for clinical use. FE_NO is reliably able to detect eosinophilic asthma, in neutrophilic asthma it produces misleading low measurements and requires an additional sputum analysis.      «
