The INFAT-study examines the effect of a reduction in the ratio of n-6/n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in the maternal diet during pregnancy and lactation on adipose tissue development of the infant. The aim of this thesis was to study the effect of the dietary intervention on offspring body composition up to 1 year of age. We found no evidence that supplementation with n-3 fatty acids and instructions to reduce arachidonic acid intake during pregnancy and lactation relevantly affects fat mass or fat distribution in the offspring during the first year of life.      «

Die INFAT-Studie untersucht den Einfluss einer Senkung des n-6/n-3 Fettsäure-Quotienten in der mütterlichen Ernährung während der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit auf die Fettgewebsentwicklung beim Neugeborenen. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit war den Einfluss der Ernährungsintervention auf die auf die Körperzusammensetzung der Kinder im 1. Lebensjahr zu untersuchen. Wir fanden keine Evidenz dafür, dass eine Reduktion des Verhältnisses von n-6 zu n-3 Fettsäuren in der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit das Fettgewebswachstum bei den Nachkommen im 1. Lebensjahr günstig beeinflusst.      «
