In this study, we retrospectively analyzed 542 cardiac operations on patients age >16 years with congenital heart disease. Objective of the study was to identify independent cardiac risk factors for adverse outcome. Composite end point of adverse outcome was death during hospital admittance or prolonged intensive care of >4 days. Cyanosis, NYHA class >2, impaired function of the systemic ventricle, enlargement of the systemic ventricle and extracorporal circulation time > 82 min proved to be risk factors in the multivariate regression analysis. Based on this information a score for preoperative risk stratification for adults with congenital heart disease can be developed.
