The aim of this paper was to show the effects of the acetylcholininhibitor galantamine on the rate of cerebral blood flow in the Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). Therefore, we investigated the brain activity of patients with MCI during navigation with the O15-H2O-PET. We compared two groups of patients, one group of those was treated with galantamine for the time of three months. We noticed an augmentation of activation in the frontal region and the anterior cingulate in the treated group, compared with the untreated. Healthy people typically show an activation of exactly these two regions during attention. Therefore, we could interprete these changes under the galantamine-treatment as normalization for the activation of healthy. Consequently, it appears reasonable, to start with the treatment of galantamine already in the state of MCI.
