During plant development, receptor-like kinases (RLKs), such as STRUBBELIG (SUB), play important roles in intercellular signaling regulating organ shape. The sub mutants display for example alterations in integuments, and twisted stems, carpels and petals. SUB is expressed in proliferative tissues. Moreover, SUB is an atypical RLK that does not require kinase activity for its function in vivo. Finally, seventeen interacting candidates of SUB were identified in a yeast two-hybrid screen, including ALADIN a putative nucleoporin.
