In our hospital-based retrospective study on elderly patients with skin disorders, the multiresistant MSSA was found to be associated with type II diabetes, renal insufficiency, leg ulcer and liver disease. Ulcer was also a significant risk factor for MRSA. Erythromycin, clindamycin, ofloxacin and ciprofloxacin showed the highest resistance rates. Cephalosporin and doxycycline remain as good choices. Topical use of fucidic acid and mupirocin should be monitored due to the increasing resistance.
