In this study, controlled cortical impact (CCI) traumatic brain injury was performed in a total of 210 mice in 4 experimental series. Histological determination of contusion volume, brain edema, intracranial pressure, and neurological examinations were performed after treatment with argon or control gas mixtures. A neuroprotective effect was shown at a concentration of 50% argon with respect to the neurological outcome of the experimental animals. In addition, the effect of argon on blood pressure and cerebral blood flow was investigated.
