The incidence of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) has significantly increased in recent years. The most important risk factor is gastroesophageal reflux. An EAC can develop via the preliminary lesion of Barrett’s esophagus (BE). In this thesis, the goblet cell density as well as four immunohistochemical markers (Dclk1, TFF2, Lgr5, Notch1), previously described in a mouse model, were examined in human samples. The results were evaluated statistically in order to develop an prognostic marker for patients with BE or EAC.
