The possibilities of a treatment of dental tissues with the CO2-Swiftlase®-laser of Sharplan were researched in this experimental study. The enamel and dentin preparations of the pig teeth were treated buccal and lingual with variable laser output (0.5W to 3.0W) and different ray-treatment (5 and 10 sec). The difference of the temperature in the pulp, the cooling rate and the reduction of dental tissue were measured. Solely by treatment with unimportant laser output the temperature in the dental pulp was physiologically justifiable. Nevertheless there is no therapeutic advantage concerning the reduction of dental tissue.
