Abstract:

Objective: Survey of the typical weight course of eating disorders patients during inpatient psychodynamic treatment in consideration of the difficult ones. Method: Retrospective empirical study of uncomplicated treatment courses of ten weeks duration with 226 patients 31% AN, 46% BN, 23% both diagnosis. Relationship between body mass index (BMI) and statistical mark "r-square" as clinical parameters of weight diagrams. Results: There are four typical courses, which reflect the underlying psychodynamic. A new taxonomy arranges the patients by their grade of manifestation of conflicts into bodily changes. Patients with mainly AN diagnosis and a starting BMI of more then 15,0 and a duration of symptoms less than 3 years have the highest probability not to gain weight or just little. An increase of weight of at least 2 kg has to be demanded as success of therapy. Discussion: The relationship between AN and BN syndrome should again be discussed against the background of the dynamic conflicts because of the mutual weight symptoms.
