NLRP3 is an intracellular pattern recognition receptor, that senses a huge variety of pathogen associated molecular pattern. Its exact mechanism of activation remains unknown.
We investigated NLRP3 upstream signals by two different approaches.
On the one hand, we show an indirect NLRP3 activation triggered by an unconventional lytic cell death induced by two different small molecules. On the other hand, we demonstrate that cytokine signalling is enhancing NLRP3 expression and IL-1β secretion.
