Peripheral mononuclear blood cells (PMBC) from venous blood were cultured under normoxia or hypoxia and the secreted angiogenic factors were qualtitatively and quantitatively determined. Hypoxia exerted significant effects on the expression of ANG, IL-8, MMP-8, TSP-1 und PF-4 in PMBC. Cultivation of PBMC on various types of wound dressings led, depending on the scaffold-specific properties, to a marked increase of angiogenic activities of PBMC (e.g., tube formation, secretion of angiogenic factors). These results represent an important step towards the development of biologically active wound dressings
