Abstract:

Translated abstract:
Breast cancer is a heterogenous disease that shows a high degree of variation in morphology, tumor biology and response to therapy. The current systemic treatments, including chemotherapy, are often inefficient and frequently result in inappropriate therapy and treatment-related toxicitiy. Specific biomarkers for personalized medicine are urgently needed. This doctoral thesis focuses on KLK8, a serine protease of the family of kallikrein-related peptidases, and its clinical relevance in breast cancer.
