Kurzfassung:
This work investigated the effects of low-dose radiation in clinically relevant situations on the brain in a mouse model. The results show that a single low-dose radiation exposure has a strong and sustained effect on the hippocampus at the molecular and structural level. Indications of increased inflammation and cell death were measured at a dose of 0.5 Gy, while lower doses trigger a protective effect. These results contribute to a better understanding of the long-term effects of clinically relevant radiation.
