In this work the reaction rate constants (kOH) for the reaction of a set of isothiocyanate compounds with hydroxyl radicals (OH) were determined, both experimentally and theoretically, and the life span of the isothiocyanate compounds in the atmosphere was estimated. The degradation introduced by the attack of hydroxyl radicals is the first step in a whole number of further reactions up to the formation of more or less stable products. In addition, in this work the identification of stable products formed from the isothiocyanates was realised. As primary products isocyanates and sulfur dioxide develop.
