The combustion of waste is widely used to reduce the amount of its deposition. During this process, different pollutants are build in the combustion chamber. Modern waste incineration plants are equipped with a complex filter and cleaning system (so called end of the pipe systems) to reduce these harmful compounds. In case of the nitrogen oxides (NOx), the reduction could be achieved by the prevention of the NOx formation through a controlled combustion process. The precondition for this controlled combustion is a better understanding of the NOx formation process in waste incineration plants. In this work, different techniques for fast on-line measurements in the raw gas of waste incineration plants have been applied. The measurements have been made both at small-scale test facilities and at full-scale industrial waste incineration plants. The different sampling points at the combustion facilities allowed on-line measurements in different zones of the NOx formation process.
