Bispektral Index (BIS) und Patient State Index (PSI) sind aus dem EEG errechnete Parameter, die zur Messung der hypnotischen Komponente bei Allgemeinanästhesie empfohlen werden. Sie wurden bei chirurgischen Eingriffen an 63 Patienten parallel gemessen und bezüglich ihrer Korrelation und Artefaktanfälligkeit untersucht. Die Korrelation beider Indices war nur schwach (0,644). Es gab keine Übereinstimmung bei Werten, die mit definierten klinischen Ereignissen korreliert sein sollen (z.B. Bewusstseinsverlust), oder auch nur bei der Anzeige, ob ein Patient narkotisiert oder wach sei. Artefaktphasen traten beim PSI häufiger auf, jedoch waren auch isolierte Ausfälle des BIS sowie Ausfälle beider Parameter zu verzeichnen.     «

The Bispektral Index (BIS) and the Patient State Index (PSI) are EEG derived parameters recommended for the measurement of the hypnotic component of general anaesthesia. They were each measured on 63 patients during elective surgery and then examined regarding their correlation and susceptibility to artifacts. Only weak correlation could be noticed for both indices (0,644). No congruence at all was found concerning data that should be correlated with defined clinical events (i. e. loss of consciousness), nor concerning the mere indication whether a patient was anaesthetized or awake. Artifact phases could be observed more frequently in the PSI than in the BIS, however, there were also some isolated failures of the BIS as well as combined failures of both parameters.     «
