Evaluating the case of the closure of the Bosch plant in Munich Berg am Laim, this paper analyzes the relationship between employment in the automotive supply industry and the system of automobility. For this purpose, interviews were conducted with employees, the workers council, the trade union and civil society involved in the resistance against the closure plans. This was supplemented by field visits to the plant and participant observations at relevant events. Based on elements of grounded theory and ethnography, the collected data were evaluated hermeneutically and interpretatively regarding current change processes in the automotive and supplier industry. This was implemented through the analytical lens of future images of the social system of automobility. Thereby visible change processes in the industry (employment reduction, transformation to electromobility, changed structure between manufacturers and suppliers) as well as reduced importance of employment at suppliers, rejection of change by employees, increasing potential for conflict between actors, low chances for conversion, reduced stability of automobility and need for transitive and compensatory action were evaluated.
